I guess You all have experienced it: In discussions in a virtual environment / on a social media platform, people's opinions tend to follow the majority. I found an interesting article about this phenomenon, written by a management consultant. He is drawing this conclusion:
"Social media, blogs, personal brands and online personas only give the
illusion of uniqueness and differentiation. In reality, those
activities increase conformity, stifle diversity and keep you marching
to the same drumbeat as everyone else."
Read the full article below. Wbat do You think about it? Please use this forum to post Your ideas.
Let's discuss and dare to be non-comformist as well.

Why True Leaders Are So Rare
written by Steve Tobak
Ever wonder why there are so few real leaders and never any shortage of followers? It’s biology. Humans are by nature herd animals. We may call our herds "communities" and "towns," but they’re still herds, just the same. And herds, by nature, have few leaders.
This isn't rocket science. Safety in numbers is an ancient survival instinct. When we’re around others, our brains reinforce that behavior by rewarding us with neurotransmitters that make us feel good. That’s why we evolved as social creatures.
Unfortunately, technology has made a real mess of things. Social media and messaging fool the limbic system – the part of the brain responsible for survival and response to emotional stimuli – into rewarding us every time we connect with others online. That’s why you feel that tug to text and tweet. It’s literally addictive.
[...]
In case you’ve never noticed, rush-hour traffic patterns are exactly the same. People will just sit and stew in stop-and-go, bumper-to-bumper traffic on crowded highways instead of taking surface streets and saving themselves all sorts of time and stress.
All this because we’re programmed to behave like lemmings. It makes us feel good. It makes no difference if there are tons of metal and wheels separating us or we’re packed into tiny little buildings like mice in a cage. We can even be talking, texting or tweeting with others continents away. It’s all the same to the limbic system.
The same phenomenon also brings us social norms. Those who support the majority viewpoint on issues are lauded by others so that behavior is reinforced in much the same way. Meanwhile those with dissenting views clam up for fear of being ostracized from the community or isolated from the herd – a dangerous thing back when the limbic system evolved.
That’s called the spiral of science, but it’s really those same biochemical reactions in the brain that cause cultural conformity. It takes enormous individual courage, strength and discipline to override those emotional warning signs your brain puts out, break from the status quo and risk being perceived as unpopular.
And that pressure to conform is enhanced online. A Pew Research and Rutgers University study concluded that the spiral-of-silence effect is actually far worse on Facebook and Twitter than in face-to-face public forums. The same is true among users of those social networks, even when they’re not online.
So, contrary to popular wisdom, social media, blogs, personal brands and online personas only give the illusion of uniqueness and differentiation. In reality, those activities increase conformity, stifle diversity and keep you marching to the same drumbeat as everyone else.
Herd animals, indistinguishable lemmings, behaviorally conditioned lab rats – distasteful as those words and phrases may be -- they describe the vast majority of human behavior, especially online. While the biology may go back millions of years, the effect is more pronounced in today’s 24x7, socially connected culture than ever before.
The simple truth is, if you want to be a successful entrepreneur, innovator or business leader, you have to break from the herd and think and act differently. Yes, it takes courage, strength and discipline to overcome the powerful programming of your limbic system and the spiral of silence, but that is what it takes to lead.
You can’t lead the herd and be part of the herd at the same time. Biology doesn’t work that way. You’re either a leader or a follower. Simple as that.

No, I'm not dying. Tug my hair, beat my bum. But please don't make me numb. I like the pain. You may think I'm insane. But it's not that abnormal. What is normal? My legs go limp, I can't breathe. You're not even choking me. I pant, I grunt, I'm so excited. To feel this again I'd be delighted. I'm so glad I trust you. I love being tied up. Who knew? dig your kubaton into my shoulder. My love for pain is more than a smolder. You dig, I yelp. But don't you help. I lose my balance, I fall. You catch me. You catch us all. I could probably cum from this. Do it harder, my thoughts are a mist. A heavy fog falls over my brain. I'm light as a feather, let's do it again. I feel like I'm on Ecstasy! I want more, give it to me. Tie me up and beat me down. I'll fully enjoy it with no sound. I scream, but it's the good kind of scream. The kind that says, don't stop. Please don't stop. Bring me into subspace once more. Ignore the knock on the door. I crave it, I want it. Give it here. Do it again, I have no fear. |

A new chat forum: V2R D/s chat - Sundays 11am SLT
A new chat forum at the D/s Academy has come into existence!
D/s V2R Chat Forum - "From Virtuality to Reality"
Every Sunday at 11 am SLT, at the D/s Academy Welcome Pavillion.
D/s that once started in SL can become REAL LIFE.
This is an open chat forum intended for Dominants, submissives and switches
in online relationships who are considering to take their D/s from virtuality
to reality (V2R) some day. Adressates are also D/s couples in real life who
already made this step. Let's also wrap minds around the element of risk,
safety precautions, necessary preparations and relationship dynamics.
The event will be hosted by different people. We are always seeking Dominants,
submissives and switches - ideally D/s couples - willing to share experiences
and be inspirational to others.
The development of an online only relationship to a real life engagement
can be like a star to other people, inspiring them to not give up hope when
RL constraints get into the way of developping the virtuality of an online
D/s relationship to reality.

And it takes no time to fall in love
But it takes you years to know what love is
It takes some fears to make you trust
It takes those tears to make it rust
It takes the dust to have it polished

Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle
Ah la la la la la la life is so full of

A Philosophy of the D/s relationship - October 7th, 1 pm SLT
Are you interested in a basic way to understand the nature of your D/S
relationship?
Kwatsu Kamachi offers a talk on the Philosophy of the D/S Relationship-Setting the Foundation, at the D/s Academy Theatre on the SIM Respect in SL, on Wednesday, October 7th, at 1 pm SLT.
Kwatsu wrote about His class:
"This talk is meant as a foundational construct and does its best to exclude a discussion of behaviors which would then naturally follow. This is something to contemplate, digest and think about and not necessarily believe.
I invite the participant to actually not “believe” what I put forward but to hold it, test it, and see if there isn’t “utility” in this construct. Once you have just “held” this for a while I assert that you will see the out-right utility of this Foundation if not the actual Truth of it.
I exclude a discussion of behaviors at this time because there are an infinite amount that can fulfill the model and tend to be situational in nature."

Our SIM's name in SL
R E S P E C T
To give respect to one another,
Is to care for them like a sister or brother.
It is to show someone that you really care,
To compromise, outlook, and always be fair.
To be respectful you shall show dignity,
Also speak nothing but the honesty.
You could be respectful to just about anyone,
A teacher, parent, or even a friend in a marathon.
To be respectful is to show forgiveness,
And not to laugh at someone's weakness.
Give a complement or two to make someone feel wanted,
It will make them feel special, unique, or gifted.
To give respect to someone else,
You have to learn to respect yourself.
To show respectfulness you have to learn,
To give everyone a chance or a turn.
Everyone has the right to be respected,
A friend, crossing guard, or a guy running to be elected.
So don't forget to respect all,
Whether it is spring, summer, winter or fall.

Being Owned
From the blog "The Submission Mission", by dicks46
http://thesubmissionmission.wordpress.com/2013/09/05/what-does-being-owned-mean-to-me/
Being Owned.
Sounds silly when you really think about it. Like I’m some piece of furniture or property; like I was bought only after someone analyzed my specs and decided I was worth the purchase.
Owned
I guess that’s the literal sense of the word. Perhaps coming from my education the word ‘owned’ means that very idea of being bought and sold. Perhaps it’s what I think other people, those not in the lifestyle, will think when they hear it. But it means so much more than that.
When I think about what it means to me to be owned it’s so simple and so complicated. It’s really twofold.
When I began entering in to the bdsm world and d/s I saw being owned as being property. A phrase people used when in scenes to signify the power exchange. To signify the fact that you have chosen to given up your control and therefore choose to give up that right – you are owned.
Since my Master and I have been together my opinion on what it means to be owned has changed significantly.
When I began searching for a dominant I was extremely picky. I don’t trust easily and I don’t care or love easily either. I ruled a number of people out because I knew I couldn’t trust them, or they didn’t have the right motives, experience, temperament or ego. I didn’t want a know-it-all and I didn’t want a complete newbie either and I certainly didn’t want an egotistical guy with real or fake experience. Immediately when people hear the word picky they sometimes think ‘shallow’ but my pickiness was really about finding someone I felt was safe, sane and consensual so that I could build trust to allow myself to experience my submission. Because of this, the notion of being owned means I have found someone I felt I could allow myself to experience my submission with and through. I have found someone I trust implicitly, someone I care for deeply and someone I want to hold the title and responsibility of owning me.
Being owned is this ultimate sense of security. I feel safe in my ownership. When I hear my Master say he owns me I’m flooded with a sense of peace and contentment. My life is busy and has its own elements of stress and frustration but when I hear that phrase everything washes away, the stress and the frustration is gone and all I’m left with is utter security, contentment and happiness. I feel at home. Like there isn’t any other place in the world I’d rather be because everything I need is provided for.
Independently we can provide for ourselves. We are as human beings able to work for a wage to provide shelter, food, basic necessities. We can easily be self-sufficient and provide for our most basic needs. But we cannot provide the security, happiness and contentment that comes from sharing in a committed loving relationship.
My Master and I don’t live together and therefore we aren’t married or engaged. For right now I feel that being Owned is a sense of commitment. All we have in our relationship is honesty, trust and communication. What we have is what we say to each other. Right now we have committed to exactly that: being honest with each other to continually build trust while opening ourselves up in some of the most vulnerable areas of our lives and keeping each other together through continual communication; we are committed to working together through everything, to not throwing in the towel because things get tricky.
Being owned says I accept you. I accept all your flaws.
Having someone tell you they own you means they want to own you. It means they accept you and they are willing and committed to owning you. There is responsibility in deciding to own someone and the understanding is therefore that they accept and want this commitment.
When I hear this phrase every insecurity and vulnerability washes away and I’m filled with the desire to fulfill. I feel confident. For once I feel like I have purpose. I have a place. I have a place that’s desired by someone other than me. I feel like I have a place and a purpose.
Relationships are work. They are mutual work and a lot of it. But my submission is an opportunity for me to selfishly escape from my life and my work and journey back into myself and give me something I want. My submission is putting me first and I feel guilty in making that decision, I feel guilty in having someone else fulfill my desires and assist in providing me me – it is a luxury. Being owned works to eliminate the selfish guilt I feel because being owned means you want this just as much as I do.
What does being owned mean to me?
It means I am cared for and respected. It means I am loved. It creates in me a sense of security and contentment like no other. It allows me to journey into my submission. To face some of the scariest things I have in my closet because it allows me to open my body and my mind to the deepest of vulnerabilities. It allows me to trust, even blindly. It allows me to trust that together we will tear each other down and will work to build each other back up. It means we are committed to us- to communicating and trusting through honesty. It means we say all the hard things and we discuss all the scary things together. It means I’m safe. It means I have a purpose.
This feeling of being owned is directly attributed to the environment my Master has created and the way he makes me feel. Without him, being owned would not be the same. Being owned would be degrading but with him being owned feels like the greatest honor I’ve been bestowed. Because of him I feel confident, safe, and purposeful. Because of him I am content and happen. I feel owned.

TV documentary on BDSM in RL
This 43 minutes long TV documentary gives insight
in the life of couples who enjoy BDSM.
in the life of couples who enjoy BDSM.
Not only male top/Dom - female bottom/sub constellation focused on kinky sex,
but also 24 D/s, Femdom, kinky polyamory, switching
and other varieties of alternative relationship life are included.
but also 24 D/s, Femdom, kinky polyamory, switching
and other varieties of alternative relationship life are included.
The video is also like an introduction to BDSM and D/s
since the importance of safety, sanity and consentuality, the element of danger/risk,
subspace, contracts, limits, safewords, traffic lights code,
the meaning of marks, the symbolism of a collar etc. are being explained.
Also the problem of coming out and "leading a double life" due to society's view
on alternative lifestyles and legals aspects are subjects of the film.
At the end of the film real life socializing with other people
with an interest in BDSM is encouraged, same as taking classes
on safe kinky play etc., offered by many local BDSM communities.
The film title "The real 50 shades documentary" is misleading somewhat.
The film content is mostly free of talking about the kinky bestseller novel.
I consider the film a well-done introduction to RL BDSM.
Have fun watching.

Emergency Self Aftercare Class - 05/28/2014 (by mirjam)
"Emergency Self-Aftercare for submissives"
BDSM Pathfinder Class by Mirjam Munro, May 28th 2014
held at D/s Academy
Download as pdf
1. What is aftercare?
Aftercare slowly guides the submissive out of the subspace state where he/she might not be aware of the environment and, maybe, even him/herself. The endorphinic effect as a reaction to the "physical stress" in BDSM Scenes (by impact play, for example) can involve the feeling of disassociation of the individual to his/her environment. This is one way how subspace is described in literature.
A D/s academy member once said "I think it helps the sub get her 'edges' back - kind of get back into her body, ground". I liked this way to word it.
The purpose is to avoid sub drop, which can be a natural physical effect when the endorphine level go back to normal after a high. Maybe You have seen such happen with marathon runners, when they suddenly break down exhausted some time after having arrived at the end in euphoria, and start crying for no apparent reason or have other breakdown symptoms.
Aftercare makes sure the sub is observed, protected and comforted. It guides the sub back from sub space to "Normal real world" step by step. It prevents that the sub falls into subdrop. The Dom's task is to "bring back the submissive from another world to reality" - slowly, softly, caressing and observant, protective. Some do it by cuddling, simply holding, some by wrapping subbie in blankets, some by talking ... whatever works for the individual.
2. SELF-aftercare -. When is it needed?
princessbbygurl: "if the Dominant suddenly gets called away or gets sick or otherwise taken out of the picture. if the Dominant doesn't understand aftercare and provides none. if you start to drop suddenly and are away from the Dominant."
jwenting: "yes, or the sub can be taken out. I've had jobs where I was effectively on call 24/7, always had to be within earshot of my mobile phone and able to reach an internet connection in 5 minutes, or the office in 30"
Less likely in RL than in online environments, scening "body on body", but also there: The Dom can become "taken out of the picture" suddenly.. Here are some situations when the "Dom is not doing his/her job":
1 online relationship: Dominant suddenly offline due to tech problems, SL crash, times without internet in RL ... or rl wifes interfere (lol)
2 Dominant not able to give proper aftercare - for example lacking knowledge, lacking awareness of condition of the sub or is doing aftercare but in another way than the sub needs.
3 Another situation when "emergency self aftercare" is needed is after a release or when suddenly dom lets the sub alone for some limited time due to some "impulsive reaction" etc.
My experience is that an emotional feeling of safety and protection (that can be triggered when the Dom is present, holding the subbie etc) can compensate negative effects of biochemicals going into the drop/minus region temporarily before all settles back to normal in the body. It could be the effect of oxytocine, the "trust hormone".
Do the extremes when You are sure of the safety net to hold You when You fall. Like with extreme sports. Great kick when it succeeds, but also great damage when You fall and there is no safety net and no protection helmet. It is important, that submissives are able to pay attention to themselves and care for themselves when necessary. When "Dom is out of function", for whatever reason.
3. SELF-aftercare -. What could be elements of it?
Please share with each other what one could do to oneself, to get out of subdrop
solene: "I think if I found myself in such situation the way to snap out of it quick would be to call a trusted friend,, but its not always possible."
princessbbygurl: "i keep an emergency aftercare kit on hand. first of all, i have a list of steps written down to follow, as i know i will not be in quite my right mind :D.
a blanket to wrap myself in,
bottled water,
candy/chocolate,
books and things to read or keep my cell phone or tablet handy that has soothing music on it.
and i have found that if i am dropping hard or going back into subspace, if i have a focal point, visually, i can bring myself out, so i will have a picture i can focus on.
and i had one Dominant who did the very sweetest thing for me. he made a video of himself telling me how much he loved me and how special and important i was to him. It was SOOOOOO helpful to watch that when i was dropping and couldn't talk with him.but sometimes people have letters from their Dom/mes that do the same, so they can read them.
and it's always good, i think, to have a few contacts/friends who you can reach out to."
solene: "I would try to fight the feeling of abandonement by trying to get out of it, watching a funny movie or talking to a friend."
A few words on the topic "Self aftercare" from me (Mirjam):
Self aftercare always involves the emotional aspect of caring well for yourself, giving yourself proper attention and lovingly look at yourself.
It is something that is sometimes hard to do for a sub in subdrop, as submissives tend to feel responsible for their state, they might feel ignored or even tossed aside and "worthless", and they might not feel positive about themselves. In subspace and subdrop a sense of self and awareness of self might have gotten temporarily lost.
This is also a reason why having a prepared kit at hand and force oneself to use it, like princess is doing, is a great idea.
When You are submissive, it is important to anchor it in your mind that you, as a sub, are a precious person. And to not make this dependent on Your Dom that You are a precious person. Some written document, poem, or video from Your Dominant or a friend expressing right this might help in situations of drop. Something that reminds You of the value that you have. Maybe You need Your Dom to feel precious, but You do not need Your Dom to be precious. You are. Your Dominant had a reason to chose you. And you are not a sub who failed just because your Dom did not do (proper) aftercare. Take pride in your submission.
As self aftercare, Do everything to make yourself feel comfortable and safe. Quiet self-nurturing rituals are good.
Also, try to be gentle with yourself in your mind, don't judge feelings, love yourself and affirm your beauty and pride in your submission. Noone can take away from you what you are. And also, remember that You are not only the submissive inside of Yourself. You have other aspects of personality too.
There is a mental technique to let feelings come, project them onto a canvas into Your mind, to look at them without judgement and to let them go again.
I think such needs exercise to function well, and it also might not work for everybody, but for some people such mental techniques can be very helpful.
And most important: And nothing that you are can get lost longterm, it might just get out of sight. This is perception vs. essence. Us subs tend to think our perception of self and of our Dom equals our/their essence. Often it does not.
For the last part of the class, I could share some more ideas for self aftercare with You that I found on a great blog several months ago.

The blog has been redesigned in the meantime and many of the great articles that i could find there in the past are not online anymore.
So, what could one do right after a scene, to avoid subdrop? (the following quotes are taken from mistress160's blog)
"1 Allow yourself time to slowly come back to normal status. Because of the risk of lacking aftercare or because of the need of long aftercare BDSM scenes should not be squeezed into a tight schedule. It is hard for a sub in subdrop to care well for him-/herself and recover when he/she needs to work 30 minutes later."
"2 Clean up - Wash your hands and face. Maybe it helps you to hold hands & wrists under running water "to come back to earth". Change into comfortable clothes for a warm & cozy feeling. A blanket helps with it as well. A hot cup of tea. Get the rest that you need. Maybe get some sleep."
"3 Replenish energy reservoirs of the body: Drink lots of water or fruit juice (lot of liquid loss by physically demanding BDSM scenes possible - headache might indicate dehydration). To get blood sugar to normal level small healthy snacks such as nuts, fresh or dried fruit, chocolate, or an energy bar are good. Food with B-vitamins help your nervous system."
"4 When you feel freezing cold or even hot (which can happen when you body is filled with endorphines) , warm or cold showers, bubble baths ... may help"
"5 Gentle sportive exercise such as yoga or tai chi or a walk outside can help the body's biochemical levels return to normal"
"6 Then there are Mental exercises" ... Meditatiom for example that help to get back to "reality". Or "mental transformation"exercises, which means that you change the perception of an object, or a feeling, by mental powers / imagination. one example is that of the tree: Focusing on something solid, picturing yourself as a tree, letting your roots sink solidly into the ground, taking the energy you need from the ground. (thanks for this idea, Ki). Our mind can do a lot and it can "root" ourselves in our self again which can help against the feeling of having "lost oneself". Reaffirm your self worth.
"7 Do something against the feeling of being alone. Call a good friend. Meet with people and get distracted (sports group, for example). Or when you find it impossible to be around people in this moment, then share with your diary and give expression to your soul. Do not forget to think about all your strengths and what can be cherished about you."
I advise to new submissives to stay away from Dominants that try to isolate you and do not allow you to keep a social net.
"8 When your Dom was not abusive, but just failing in action and you intend to remain his/her sub: Tell your Dom/me about your feelings when you're able. They need the feedback. And they might be able to help You. And simply telling them and sharing Your experiences with them might help You."
Don't worry about being "freaking needy" because this is part of the dance and they need to hear your feelings as much as you need to be heard. Don't assign blame where it's not warranted, but gently call attention to your symptoms of subdrop and suggest ways they might help you with it next time.

held at D/s Academy

The B in BDSM - What's your favourite bondage quote?

A nawashi has got to listen to his heart, technique is not as important.
When you are not fully
into it with your full heart,
the bound person becomes a puppet.
The sense of shibari comes by the emotions that you put into it.
(a translation of a quote by Kinoko Hajime)
Kinoko Hajime is a Japanese rope artist. He is famous for his Cyber Rope shows and has also taught the art and technique of Japanese bondage (shibari) in workshops and lectures across Europe. See some of his work here: http://www.shibari.jp/album/
Looking forward to reading Your favourite quotes that are related to the B in BDSM - Bondage.

Eyes on .... Gay leather in Iran and the palestinian territories (Expo by Andreh Omidi at PCX Arts & Library)
In February and March there very interesting exhibit at PCX Arts & Library in Secondlife. The Expo is called "Point Blank", presented by the Iranian journalist & photographer Andreh Omidi.
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Moonspell/93/96/23
These works of art have a much deeper dimension. I invite you to read "Andréh’s exhibit statement" which I copied below. It is giving insight into the life of gay and lesbian people in Iran.
mir
Andréh’s exhibit statement.
Salam, Greetings
I thank you for visiting Gallery X and viewing my exhibit today.
My name is "Andreh" and I am a submissive leather bottom and contextual slave.
[...]
I am a gay man, collared to the service of Master Tek, in SL and in "real life". I'm also a reporter and photojournalist covering the Middle East and Eastern Europe. You may have seen some of my pictures or our group’s films on YouTube or in magazines. Most of my work is now for NGO's+ working and living in the Middle East.
I was born and grew up in Ramallah Palestine and lived for a long time also in southern Iran. Today I live anonymously, far away from my home. I have travelled to many countries as a journalist, I am lucky. It was from this world of refugees and running, that my Master took me. He has bought me into a new world and a new standard of living inside and out.
I learnt to hide my sexuality, to appease others through silence, a very long time ago. I chose photography as a job when I was a teenager growing up as it gave me a justification for being in places I shouldn't have been otherwise. It has been a way to express things I knew if I put words to, would see me arrested normally.
In Ramallah, most people have been displaced, have been abused or emotionally distressed at some point on some level. As a result, sex here and in Iran, can take on a different dimension to other places in the world I have found. At the same time it's the most and least important thing in the universe. Here, most everyone of my generation has battle scars and wounds and no one has had much time to address them or love enough to heal them. Everyone I have known has left home or plans to do so as soon as they can find a way out. Only the mad ones, like me, keep going back and those that stay, live half lives in deep closets.
I've known I was gay since I was a child, though in my culture to be gay is like being a leper or Satan's own offspring, so if they're not trying to fuck you in their hypocrisy, they try to beat it out you early. I grew up in this culture of fear-as-norm and learned to play with it and even to get off on it.
I enjoyed the risk and clandestine hard hook ups; I was fascinated by the codes of gay military men and the secrecy and signs only we knew. This sense of brotherhood and shared terror which is what I found in what stands for our gay community here, meant that for a long time I wouldn't have had it any other way.
These days, in some places in the Middle East, they hang you now if you’re caught fucking, holding hands, being "too familiar or effeminate", or even if they just suspect you of being gay. They use being labeled as a gay man as a threat to silence political resistance and enforce compliance to religious social law. So life is very different than it was before and the risks are much worse than before, especially for gay men.
Lesbian women don't have it much better but they tend to get to trial more often than men where international aid agencies and what few openly gay collectives there are working here, can advocate for them. Most gay men, boys, and trans people "discovered" in Palestine are just jailed without trial, or shot and disposed of in bombed out buildings. In Iran, we are given mock trials, gathered in public squares and hung from cranes or wooden beams...
The true number of the murder victims in both these countries, will never be known to anyone but Allah.
As I grew up, the early lust of fear as fuel for the pseudo-erotic battle between "them" and "us", quickly lost its power as a sex aid under these conditions. In its place growing anger rose as I watched so many of my friends murdered or sit in prisons forgotten by almost everyone. On my last day in Iran, two friends and a hook up where hung right in front of me along with a man I knew was not a gay man at all and one that had been accused of being gay so a local politician did not have to face his own lusts and past. They were noosed around the neck and then they were drawn up by a crane until they died.
It wasn't even about them being gay or anything they did to harm anyone as gay people; it was about religious politics and power games. Like the reported reality of times during the European dark ages, the worst part is the witch hunting and crowds of ignorant cheering people who have no idea why they are doing what they are beyond what someone else has told them to think.
I lived most days in more fear of my neighbour than the IRG* or the RP**. On this day I stood there and took pictures as it was all I could do. I used my camera to hide my face and my crying. I made it my weapon of resistance and I made sure I was standing with two UN people. They looked after me that night and with their help I left Iran the very next day.
It dawned on me on the flight out of there, that the people doing this murder didn't even say these peoples names when they read out their 'crimes'. They summoned and referred to them only by their initials. It was that day I started to see the excuse that the dehumanisation of people who are gay for what it is, and saw our struggle differently. I saw this debasement of life and of people who express any difference to the demanded norm from a wider perspective.
This is the bulk of my work as a journalist today - to expose this reality. I saw firsthand that this type of twisted psychology doesn't end at the literal practice of murder or in-justice and discrimination or just with the murders of people who are gay.
It is important to me that I say that here, that by standing up the way I do, I am standing only against the abuse of faith and religion, its usurping by faithless people and their manipulation of religion, people and belief for political financial and social control. I do not stand against belief or faith itself, or in defiance against Allah. This is the voice of my heart.
[:::]
So, in offering these images and thoughts today, I am hoping to show that I am beginning to make that stand as a gay man and make myself more open to new values. In my own way I am throwing off a very heavy set of leathers that have protected me all my life and claiming the ones I have now earned under Master's guiding Hand.
I felt the need to include my SL spaces in this personal revolt as well. This is my personal revolution. This is my jihad and every aspect of my being is involved. I refuse to allow my survival to be used to 'pinkwash' away the political moral spiritual and emotional reality of life in the Territories and wider Middle East and stand as a proud Man, who is gay, who is different, but just the same as you.
This exhibit has been a hard and revealing step for me; one even today I feel places me at personal risk. Master tells me it’s a new form of risk, one for a new day. So I hope these images and my words speak to you. I hope they tell you about me well. I hope they share insight into our love not just our sex adventures or the hurtful reality of life in non consensual social bondage. I also hope they arouse you. I hope they challenge you whether you're gay or not to think more of the value of what you have.
In my own way I also hope they punch you hard in the stomach and in that big breath in, help to bring to you a new awareness of the plight of gay people at risk, your fellow human beings, who are still suffering and need your focus desperately. We need, you. And I hope that you won’t be able to stay silent anymore when you hear or see injustice about you in any form either.
That's been one of the hardest things to recover from since leaving home. The worlds silence, my own silence. And the silence of my friends voices stolen from the song of this world.
Thank you for viewing my exhibition.

![]() |
| Desire for Freedom - source of image: http://ga-weblog.com |

Eyes on the SIM:
Spring is a time or rebirth and renewal. In the spirit of Spring, Sidius, ella and Mirjam have been hard at work renewing The D/s Academy.
The Welcome pavilion has emerged from the melting snow with a peaceful neo-classical atmosphere, a rotunda with a periphery of ionic columns separated by an sheer curtains.
Semi-circular benches line a low balustrade set with cushions and blankets for comfortable sitting. A softly bubbling fountain provides a soothing undercurrent for this great place to sit with friends for conversation.
The receding snows have also revealed a lagoon near the House of Scrolls where ella has fashioned an exotic submerged park. The merfolk that call it home welcome visitors to the sunken reserve.
The vibrant aquatic flora and fauna provide a lovely scene for a swim or a romantic dance. If you have a secluded rendezvous in mind, there is a small cave for private tête-à -tête.
Visit or re-visit The D/s Academy soon, attend a munch or a discussion group or just join some old and new friends at the Lagoon or Welcome Pavillion. Enjoy the day!

Staff member: Mata Windstorm - Interviewed by Cypher
After a sabbatical in Real Life, Mata Windstorm has returned to SL and The D/s Academy. On Thursdays he provides his experience and skills in crafting and then his insight and guidance in communications.
Mata has a vibrant and quick mind, a true Renaissance man. Attached are some highlights of a conversation Cypher (author of this newsletter) shared with Mata Windstorm and his enchanting lady Love.
Mata Windstorm: I used to spell it the modern way, Mahee, and now I spell it ?
the ancient way, MATA but it is the same name :-)
Mata Windstorm: Mahee is the modern name in Ireland
Mata Windstorm: Mata is the ancient gaelic
Mata Windstorm: mata got translated a few different ways... the way you would be familiar with is Matthew
~> * <~
Cypher: How long have you been crafting?
Mata Windstorm: in SL? Since my first day
Mata Windstorm: within 6 months I was building sims as well as clothing
~> * <~
Mata Windstorm: Love keeps pushing me to make more
Love: It's because he creates such nice clothes and furniture... He needs to share his talent
Mata Windstorm: someone once said that I have too many hobbies
Mata Windstorm: I said, I have only one hobby, I make things
~> * <~
Cypher: Your class is a four part series [...]
Mata Windstorm: pat 1 was 1 sitter, a pillow
Mata Windstorm: part 2 was 2 sitters, a chair
Mata Windstorm: my goal is for particles.. like chains.... next and then RLV the last one
Mata Windstorm: I think the next may be a bondage device
Cypher: Did you cover the creation of the sitter or putting in scripts?
Mata Windstorm: yep.. class one was which scripts and note cards needed to be in it as well as adjusting the sits
Mata Windstorm: second class, they had the notecards and scripts already in it to save time and we worked through how to do 2 people arrangements
Mata Windstorm: I teach with nPose because it is easy
~> * <~
Cypher: Have you been involved with The D/s Academy?
Mata Windstorm: have I been involved.. yes I have been a mentor and teacher there for a few years
Mata Windstorm: close to 4 years
~> * <~
Mata Windstorm: There is this thing in teaching called, "Sage on the Stage"
Mata Windstorm: Sage on the stage is a bad way to teach
Mata Windstorm: "Sage on the Stage" means... "I talk you shut up and listen"
Mata Windstorm: I only teach by making you do...
Mata Windstorm: even when I taught the communication class, I want active talking from the class
Mata Windstorm: my specialty.. professionally.. is as a mentor/coach
Mata Windstorm: I coach or mentor teachers to be better teachers
Mata Windstorm: I happily teach and mentor all who ask
Mata Windstorm: We all can learn, no matter how much we know

New photo booth for February: (Sub-)Space Station
Julala Demina has transformed the Photo Booth for February. This month she's given us a space that is reminiscent of Tron and Matrix. Take a friend to two to visit the Photobooth and get cyber-punked..
Each month, Juls tears down the display and constructs something new. The Photo Booth is a space to play in and to record the play with a few photographs.
You can see more photos of the Alley and the Hobo party that was held there in previous posts of this blog.
The Photo Booth is open 24/7, available to all. Please feel free to enjoy it.

*********************************************
BondZee and other game fun with Cy & Lolli
Last Wednesday, The D/s Academy gave a test run of a pervy games group. Attendees enjoyed light conversation over entertaining games of BondZee. Other games, including Greedy and Strip Poker, will be offered as desired by attendees.

Friday Night Munch
There's a fine line between pleasure and pain. The boundary is fluid and BDSM explores that frontier. Through out history human beings have danced on the point where excruciating becomes ecstatic. At last weeks' Friday Night Munch a good group gathered to poke and prod the concepts of pain and pleasure.

D/s Academy staff: Sidius Core
Sidius Core is The D/s Academy's CTO (Chief Technical Officer). One of her abiding passions is electricity and it's applications for erotic stimulation. If you have ever wondered about or been interested in electricity play, be watching for an upcoming symposium on the subject.
*********************************************
The Aztec Pyramid Dungeon Labyrinth
The D/s Academy has many areas, one of the lesser known areas is the Aztec Pyramid Dungeon Labyrinth,
a sprawling five level maze rife with hidden rooms RLV traps, perfect for hunt-and-capture play. In February, The D/s Academy will host an event showcasing this oft overlooked playscape. The event will be a hunt-and-capture tourney involving a team of Aztec Acolytes and a team of Adenturious Archeologists. Still in the final planning stages, we don't want to give much more than that away now, except to say that anyone interested in participating on either team should contact Mirjam Munro, Cypher (Cwynyd Resident), or Lollianna Dewmount.

New events calendar dispay and guide notecard
In other news, the info board at the welcome pavillion offers a listing of The D/s Academy Events for the week with teleport links to the event locations and ella (ellaeric Madrigal) has updated the D/s Academy guide notecard that is available from a notecard giver next to the pavillion.

Sidius Core is The D/s Academy's CTO (Chief Technical Officer). One of her abiding passions is electricity and it's applications for erotic stimulation. If you have ever wondered about or been interested in electricity play, be watching for an upcoming symposium on the subject.

D/s Academy staff: Julala Demina
Julala Demina has been in in SL for over six and a half years. She is a lady of many faces but singular beauty and exceptional talent. Juls moderates the Monday Munch at noon in the Temple. She hosts the chat with a thoroughly enchanting voice. One of the lesser known things Julala does for The D/s Academy is the Photo Booth.
Each month, Juls tears down the display and constructs something new. The Photo Booth is a space to play in and to record the play with a few photographs. This month's Photo Booth theme is a grungy metropolitan back alley.
You can see photos of the Alley and the Hobo party that was held there at The D/s Academy Blog:

The Photo Booth is open 24/7, available to all, and is an exhibitionist's wet dream. Please feel free to enjoy it and, if so inclined, give regards to Julala for her efforts on our behalf.
