Where I am Led - Part 9 - Commitment (by Julala)

uh oh....in the words of a certain duck....I mentioned the "C" word!  Have Y/you stopped reading already?

Tomorrow (Monday 12th Nov at 12pm SLT) W/we continue looking at some concepts of service and D/s from Where I am Led by Christina Parker and will be considering commitment.

A person's life is limited but serving the people is limitless. I want to devote my limited life to serving the people limitlessly.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Some fear commitment, some crave it, some give it, some form the basis of their morals upon it.  But what does commitment mean to you?  And does a D/s relationship need or imply a greater certainty of it?

Some might suggest that many people come to D/s because they see it as a panacea to all their previous "vanilla" relationship failures....that there is somehow a guarantee of deliverance of commitment.  Others might say that many who in D/s that are just in it for the game, the play, the ego, and have no commitment to caring for their partners or the relationship.

Have Y/you found that Y/your needs in terms of commitment are easily matched?  Or has it been a challenge  to line up Y/your commitment requirements with a partner?  They either want too much of Y/you ...or too little....?

And what exactly are Y/you committing to? Is commitment global and all-encompassing....or could it be broken down into smaller chucks?  Made easier to....commit to?  Is there a time in a relationship when commitment to caring for the other...might mean that the best thing is to end the relationship?  Is commitment seen as a sentence to "be with" that person into eternity?

“All I'm saying is that you shouldn't stay with him for the wrong reasons, even if they are noble ones. No one owes it to someone else to be their [girlfriend]. It's a choice you remake every day.”
Aprilynne Pike, Illusions

Is the giving and receiving of a collar the D/s equivalent of the giving and receiving of a ring in some other ceremonies of commitment?  Or do Y/you consider it more? Or does collaring mean something completely different to Y/you and not a sign of commitment at all?

As always W/we will also consider two thoughts for the day as time permits.  The first looking at "Understanding rules, instructions and tasks" and the second considering "bratty behaviour"and its place in a D/s relationship.

The discussion will be led in voice but as always text chat is also welcome.  A/all welcome - please join U/us at the Temple of Discussion at Respect on Monday 12th November at 12pm SLT.

Another discussion I'm looking forward to. I hope all the regulars will be there unpicking this thread in the many-faceted way they do, with minds open, and hearts, true.

And taken in context of tonight's discussion I have to observe that that was a cheeky comment. ^^
